MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIA. ‘ TARANAKI UNION MEETS. ’ In connection with the forthcoming visit of the Australian Rugby team to New Plymouth for the match against Taranaki on September' 19, arrangements 1 were approved\ by the Tarana ki Rugby Union oh Saturday. On Saturday, September 17, the. Australian team will be met at Palmerston North by the Taranaki team, which will be returning home after having played Wellington and Manawhcnua. The two teams will travel to New Plymouth together. On Friday morning the Australian team will practice at Pukekufa Park, and in the afternoon will be motored round the town. Saturday’morn will be free, and in the afternoon the match will take place at 2.30. The teams will dine together and the evening will be spent at a theatre, dances or the clubs. •' On Sunday there will be an all-day trip to Mt. Egmont, and on Monday morning the team will leave by motor for Hamilton. ,
It ’ was decided to make a grant of £2O to the Primary Schools’ Rugby Union in connection with the tournament which is to be held at New Ply.mouth during the term holidays. • The matches in the Northern Division set down for decision on August 22 will be played on August 15, and those set down for August 15 on August 22. That was done to enable the Primary Schools’ Rugby Union to play one of the tournament matches as a curtain-raiser on August 22, on which date two matches were to be decided in the park. Next Saturday Te Ante College and New Plymouth High School will play their annual match at Pukekura Park. It was decided to play the InglewoodStar match first. . Providing finality is reached in both divisions the provinc A championship for the McMasters Shield will be played in the week-ending August 29. prior to the Taranaki representative team going on tour. It was decided to play the southern and western divisional third grade semi-final between Patea and Opunake at Hawera on Saturday next. Arrangements for the second grade southern-western semi-final were left to the southern members, after consultation with the junior committee. Owing to the competition matches not yet being finalised it was not possible to definitely allocate a date at Pukekura Park for‘the annual Tainui-Whangamo-mona Sub-Union match, nor for the return Tukapa-Tainui Sub-Onion fixture. It was decided to challenge Wellington for the Ranfurly Shield. Mr. L. R. S. Retter, referee it. the Tukapa-Old Boys third grade match played at Pukekura Park on July 25, reported having ordered oh’ the field M. Neville, an Old Boys’ player, for punching an opponent. The secretary of the Old Boys’ Club wrote to the effect that Neville admitted the offence, in retaliation for the man-handling he had received. He regretted .t and apologised. It was resolved to stand the player down for two weeks.
The secretary of the Kaponga Domain Boardstatedth cmfwyp cmfwyp wyp Board stated that on the previous Saturday the ground was in such a condition as to make it almost impossible for a match .to be played. The weather for three weeks had certainly been very wet and there had also been too many matches played on tie ground—five in two weeks, of which two ere outside matches. Three years ago the ground had been levelled and planted at a cost of £lOO and since then several sums had been paid for maintenance. The board asked if the union would contribute towards the cost of harrowing and re-sowing. The secretary of the Kaponga Club pointed out that two of the games had been “play-offs” from which the Domain Board received no remuneration.
