CASTING VOTES BY CHAIRMAN.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, July 31. The proposal to approach the Local Loans Board for sanction to raise £82,500 for the re-establishment of the Napier hospital and old people’s home was carried on the chairman’s casting vote yesterday at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board. An amendment reducing the amount to £40,000 with the additional provision of £15,000 for hospital accommodation at Hastings, moved by a Hastings member, was defeated, the three Napier members and two country members voting against it and the three Hastings members and two country members for it..

The decision was reached after a discussion lasting over 3J hours.
