JULY ACTIVITY IN BUILDING

HEAVIEST MONTH OF THE YEAR. DETAILS OF VALUE OF PERMITS. There was more activity in building registered in New Plymouth last month than there has been during any previous month this year, though the figures when compared with those for the month of July, 1930, show a slight decline. The total value of the permits issued last month was £22,697, ahd the figure for the corresponding month lagt year was £23,884, a decrease of £llB7. The large amount of the value of permits issued last month was accounted for by the erection of cheese stores at, Moturoa for the Taranaki Producers’ Freezing Company. The figure was heavy last year through the inclusion in it of the erection of the children’s ward at the New Plymouth public hospital. • \ . Last month's total was made up as follows:—Business, £20,000; dwellings, £1950; alterations additions, garages, sheds, etc., £747. In 1930 they were respectively £18,418, £3250 and £2216. The respective totals for the first seven months of 1931, and 1930 are £65.705 and £74,829, a decline of £9124 Details are:—
