REPRESENTATIVE HOCKEY

FORM OF TEAM REVIEWED. ' The .standard of hockey in South Taranald has improved tMs yeai\ and a number of players are worthy of representative .honours. The representative team is now chosen and the selectors did good work but it is hard to understand' why Ryan was not picked as a. back, for he vvas easily the best full-back on the trial day. Everybody is wondering why he was not selected. Ryan’s stopping, hitting and clearing were worth watching; Percy, at left wing, deserved hiq place. He plays a good game. G. Suigenor was one of the best forwards on the day and thoroughly deserves his place. 1 The goals he scored were smart work. Watson at centre forward is wood, but did not give of his best on the-trial day. The. ground was not suitable for his class of play, but given a dry day he piays a great game. R. Irwin well deserved his place.- He is not a spent light yet. McCarthy at right wing did well and played , a wood solid wing game, but if Windle had been on his game he would- easily have beaten.him for his place. Leach at wing half worked hard. Page did not play, being out of- the town; but is easily the best centre, half, in the province. Betts deserved his game and on the day was one of tile best halves. . , ■ : A, Surgenpr at full-back was lucky to be in the team, but he played a fair game. Ryan should- have been in his place. Thompson was. lucky on . the day’s play to be in the team.. He looked as if he lacked condition. He. would be well advised to get into training. Kehely in goal is solid arid, stopped some hard shots in the trial. He is sure and well deserves his place.
