CUSTOMS REVENUE FALLS
MONTH’S EXCISE UP 100 PER CENJT. PETROL TAX SHOWS INCREASE. Customs duties on imported cargo at the port of New Plymouth during the seven months show a decrease of about 44J per cent, on the previous seven months, but for the mouth of July the decrease is much larger —about 70 per cent. - Petrol duties, on the other hand, show a remarkable increase for the month, the figure being nearly 40 per cent, higher than that for July, 1930. Th© increase for the past seven months is, however, only 21 per cent. Ah increase of 100 per cent, in the excise duty collected on beer is recorded for the month, but the monthly figure is phenomenally high and over the past seven months there has been a decrease of about 2J per cent.
