KAKARAMEA NEWS

DOWDEN FAMILY DEPARTS. A large number of Kaktiramea residents gathered at the hall on Thursday evening to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. A. Dowden. Mr. and Mrs. Dowden have lived at Kakaramea for 12 years, Mr. Walter Dou’den having been first assistant at the factory. They will take up their residence at Whenuakura, where Mr. W. Dowden will take over the position as first assistant in the Whenuakura dairy factory. Mr. N. Tong said he regretted to have to say farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Dowden and family as they had been valuable citizens, and they would be greatly missed. Mr. Walter Dowden, he said, had rendered the best of his services while in the dairy company’s employ. Mr. R. J. Watt spoke of the sendee the Dowden family had rendered the district, especially the work Mr. W. Dowden had done in the factory. Mr. H. Hall made a presentation on behalf of Kakaramea residents. The evening was largely to dancing. Mr. W. Watt gave two recitations. Supper was provided by the ladies and dancing was continued till 1 o’clock. Mrs. Millar and Mr. K. Sharp supplied, the music. The Kakaramea-Alton Bible class held a social in the Kakaramea hall on Wednesday evening. Musical items and games made the function an enjoyable one. Supper was provided by the ladies. The proceeds were to go to the hall committee’s fund. •
