BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
VICTORY FOR NEW ZEALANDER. CLEVERLEY NEXT CHALLENGER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. A contest for the Australian and New Zealand heavyweight professional boxing championship took place to-night between Allan Campbell (New Zealand champion) and Tom O’Malley (Australian champion) before a crowded audience, Campbell winning. The fight went the full distance. The judges disagreed and the referee gave his decision in favour of Campbell. O’Malley frequently carried the fight to Campbell but the latter made him miss repeatedly and countered effectively with a solid right to the body and lefts to the head. O’Malley with a longer reach had the advantage at long range but a great many of his punches were taken on Campbell’s gloves. It was a fine contest from the start, with the margin of points in favour of Campbell. At the finish Alf. Cleverley challenged the winner.
