NEW STEAMER SERVICE

AUCKLAND-NORFOLK ISLAND. SYDNEY COMPANY’S EXTENSION. Another new overseas passenger service, with Auckland as a port of call, will be inaugurated this wek. Last week the Matson Line steamer Sonoma arrived from San Francisco, en route to Sydney, under the company’s new time-table, and this week will see the commencement of a service from Norfolk Island to Auckland, which is being controlled by Burns, Philp and Company, Limited. The first steamer is the Morinda, due to-day at Auckland. The Morinda will leave Sydney every six weeks for Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island and Auckland. She will return to Sydney from Auckland, via Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island. She is a vessel of 2025 tons and in addition to accommodation for over 60 passengers, the vessel has cargo space for general merchandise and refrigerated cargo. The resumption of a regular passenger service to Norfolk Island will be of considerable importance to Auckland.
