PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES

NO CHANGE IN INCREMENTS

STATEMENT BY MR. FORBES.

GOVERNMENT ECONOMY SCHEMES.

Bjr Association. Wellington, July 24.

The Prime Minister, Mr. G. W. Forbes, stated definitely to-day that there was no alteration whatever in the policy regarding the granting of salary increments throughout the public service. The annual scale increments were being granted in accordance with the usual practice. It was true that there was no general regrading this year, Mr. Forbes said, but it was to be noted, that such general regrading of the various State services was by statute due at intervals of not more than five years and the question of the general regrading of the services would not require consideration till 1934.

Every effort was being made to reduce expenditure, tho retirements of officers being proceeded with and new appointments being curtailed to the absolute minimum.
