DEPARTURE OF MACE FAMILY. !

The Residents of Ptiniho and surrounding districts gathered at the PunihJ schoolroom on Friday to bid fareXvell to Mr. and Mrs. L. Mace and family, who have been settlers in the district for a number of The schoolroom proved inadequate for the large number (nearly 100) that assembled, but nevertheless the varied programme that was arranged by Mr. L. Bosworth, secretary, coupled with first-class dance .music supplied by Miss L. Gilhooley, with Mrl W,‘ Wilan as master of ceremonies, turned the gathering into a big happy family, and the scarcity of dancing space was only a minor item. Items were given by Mrs.. B. Harper (song), Mr. John McEldowney (recitation), Mr. Somerford and Mr. Seaver (vocal duet), Mrs. and the Misses Hoby (instrumental trio), Mr. R. Brafiley (song), Miss Peterson (song), Mrs. Beal (recitation) and Mrs. T. Larking (song). The accompaniments were played by the Misses -L: Gilhooley, Harper and Peterson.

Mr. T. Brunsden, chairman of the social committee, referred to the splendid services the guests had rendered to the school, church and any function that had been held since they had resided in the district.- Air. Alace had been a. prominent mqmbcr of the school committee and a member of the social club since its inception. Mrs. Mace had also rendered valuable services at the ladies’ guild meetings and in every matter that was connected with the church and social functions of the district. On behalf of the settlers Mr. Brunsden asked Mr. and Mrs. Mace to accept a gift of an eiderdown from the settlers as an appreciation of the services, they had so willingly given the district. The Rev.-Sinclair presented Miss Mary Mace with a xylonite hand mirror from the Sunday school children, Miss Mace having been a teacher since the Church of England Sunday school started two years ago. Mr. Sinclair stated that he and the children were very sorry to lose Miss Mace’s services. Mr. Mace was accorded musical honours upon rising to reply. Dancing was continued until the early hours. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district.
