LOWER INTEREST RATES
APPEAL BY THE GOVERNMENT INVITATION TO THE LENDERS. “UNITED AND PURELY VOLUNTARY.” By Telerraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 7. In an endeavour to reduce the general rate of interest in the Domifiion the Government is inviting the co-operation of local bodies, banks, financial companies, mortgagees, building societies, assurancri companies and all other agencies through which moneys are advanced or borrowed to reduce their correct rate of interest by one half per cent. The Governriient hopes that such, action will be united and voluntaryThe proposed reduction, it is understood, would apply to all current rates and new loans, and it is also taken for granted that the Government departments lending money Mil fall into line in any reduction that may be generally agreed to by the various lending agencies.
