MOUNTAIN ROAD RACE
WILL IT BE ABANDONED? DISCUSSION BY CYCLE CLUB, Mr. J. Sceats (president) presided over a good attendance at a committee meeting of the NewLeague Cycle Club last evening. ■Mr. C. Tippins,, was added to the committee and Mr. Sceats wat elected auditor. Messrs G. Tippins, D. George and R. Yardley were elected as an execusive and Mr. A. Gable was elected number steward. . It was reported, that the opening o’ the 1031 road season would take place next Saturday, commencing at 2 p.m, at Waiwakaiho. e ■ . The chief topic of discussion was hi regard to the running of the mquntain race this year. To test the feeling of the meeting Mr. Sceats p oposed that the race be abandoned this year on account of the general, depression. Mr. L. E. Smith-moved an amendment that the decision to carry on be left over for one month until some idea could be gathered as to the possible support forthcoming. It was reported By the secretary that Mr. Ben Tippins suggested the idea of running a race as of previous years’ standards be abandoned - until ‘1932. ' x It was decided to hold a euchre party in the very near future to gain light on the support forthcoming from that direction. The secretary was instructed to write the wholesale cycle firms that usually support the race regarding support ! for this year’s race. ' ’ ; . . ' The committee was urgeu to njake all inquiries for any possible sources as to what support was likely. . The entries for the opening road races close this (Thursday) evening. ’
