BOXING IN TARANAKI
THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
At a meeting of’ the Taranaki Boxing Association last night it was decided to hold the Taranaki amateur championships in the Coronation Hall, New Plymouth, on a date to be fixed during the week ending July 25. The general opinion of members was that despite the depression the championships should not be allowed to lapse and that an endeavour should be made to send a team to the New Zealand championships at Ashburton in August. It was pointed out that at the New Zealand championship meeting a team will be selected to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games. It was reported that meetings of delegates of the three major Taranaki associations had been held and that while their present position did not permit of Stratford and Hawera associations undertaking any financial liability, they would both give every assistance in making the championship meeting a success. St was reported that there had been a substantial loss on the Thomas-Dono-van bout. There were present at the meeting Messrs.' J. Garcia (chairman), C. E. Roebuck, J. Horlor, W. Roebuck, B. Hume, R. Harvey, V. S. Pruden, A. Clarke, J. S. King and E. J. Carr (bon. secretary).
