NO. 5 SCHEME DIFFICULTY

WELLINGTON CITY POSITION.

NUMBER EMPLOYED REDUCED.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Wellington, Last Night.

A very awkward position has arisen in Wellington concerning the No. 5 scheme. The local unemployment committee has received notification from the Unemployment Board to reduce the number of men employed and to take on no new men. Already there are 700 men eligible for employment under the scheme, whom it has not been possible to employ owing to financial difficulties, and it is evident this number will •be increased by compli-j ance with the board’s request.

The position is causing unemployment committees some concern and a meeting has been called to which the Wellington M.’eP. have been invited to discuss some way out of the difficulty.
