CARE OF THE BLIND
HOME FOR ELDERLY PERSONS.
BEQUEST TOWARD OBJECT.
The trustees of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind at Auckland have been considering for some time the establishment of a comfortable home for elderly blind people, not able to benefit by training and employment. Assistance toward this purpose is given in a bequest under the will of the late Mr. Walter Haddrell, of New Plymouth, who has left £3OO to the institute toward the erection of such a home. The frequent requests made in recent years by elderly people for accommodation .and care impressed upon the trustees the necessity for erecting such a home at the earliest possible moment, and the suggestion was mentioned by the trustees in their regular letter to the blind people of New Zealand. Mr. Haddrell, who died on June 11 at the age of 81 years, was one of those who answered the appeal, and announced his intention of leaving some, money for the purpose. He had been blind for the past seven years, and since the death of his wifo he had frequently expressed the opinion that such a home would have been a ■suitable place for him. The executors of his estate have intimated that the money will be available shortly.
The trustees of the institute already have £lBB 19s 5d in hand for this purpose.
