N.S.W. GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

NEW ZEALANDER BEATS HOLDER. SURPRISES IN FIRST DAY’S MATCH. By Telegraph—Press Assn.— Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Sydney, June 21. There were two surprises in the first day’s match play for the State golf title. W. Dobson defeated S. Keane 3 vp and 2 to play, and the New Zealander Black disposed of the title-holder C. Fawcett two up after a particularly dogged uphill fight. Fawcett, playing superb golf, reached the turn three up. With fours at the par five, 15th and 16th holes, Black squared the match and then holed out from the outside of the green at the 17th for three, taking the lead. The New Zealander was on in two at the last and won the match.
