FARMERS’ UNION MEETING. There was air excellent attendance at the monthly meeting . of . the . Urenui branch of the Farmers’ Union,; Mr. J. F. Phillips presiding. Mr.-W. J. .Pojson, M.P. (Dominion President)/ was present and addressed members on the economic position of the farmers on- the lines of speeches previously delivered in other centres. The judging of root crops was to 'be finalised on June 18, it was decided, and the date for commencing the judging of hay and ensilage stacks was postponed from June 24 to June 30 on- account of the date clashing with the opening of the N.D.A. conference at New Plymouth. A number of new- members joined the veterinary club, bringing the total of the local membership up to 20. GENERAL ITEMS. There was again a large attendance at the fortnightly euchre party in the Mimi school-room on Tuesday evening, 14 tables being occupied. The prizes were won by Miss O. Flavin with 12 games out of 13 and Mr. Charlie Baker, who also had 12 games to his credit. The tables were under the control of Messrs. E. Sulzberger and -S. Phillips. After the supper adjournment the floor was cleared for dancing to music supplied by Sir. and Mrs. R. Allen. Mr. A. M. Zimmerman was master of ceremonies. The returns of the Taranaki Herd Testing Association for the 1930-31 season show a herd of 51 cows in the Urutl group with the remarkably line average of 4021 b. buttor-fat per cow. The exceptionally good average of 332 lb. butter-fat per cow in 2SI days was attained by a herd of 117 cows in the Waitoitoi group. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. and Mrs. Jonas are spending a few weeks holiday at Devonport. • Miss P. Halcombe is the guest of Miss N. Nolan, New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. fi. A. Managh have returned from a motor trip to Rotorua and Napier. Mrs. William Old, Te Awariiutu, is spending a holiday as the. guest of Mrs. M. Jonas, “Annandale/’ Onaero. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hutchen, Mahoe. were the guests of Mrs. R. -Fitzgerald last week-end. 'Mrs. C. Wilson has returned from a holiday in Auckland. Mrs. A. Thompson, who-, has been visiting Auckland, has returned to Urenui. Mr. J. F. Phillips,- picsiohnt of the Urenui Farmers’ Union, was elected senior vice-president at the provincial conference in Inglewood recently. He was appointed a delegate to the Dominion conference. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent returned on Wednesday from a holiday in the Waikato and ‘Bay of Plenty districts. Mrs; A. B. Cannon 1 and'Miss Marjory Canaan.have returned from a prolonged visit' to Britain. .
