CONFIDENCE IN MANAGER

THE OVER-RUN CONTROVERSY. URUTI SUPFLIFRS’ RESOLUTION. “That this meeting of suppliers deprecates the attempts made to attack the manager on the question of over-run, and expresses its complete confidence in him in his dealings with the suppliers.” This resolution,' proposed by Mr. .8. Butt and seconded by Mr. A. Tt. Alpe, wasunahb Piously carried by suppliers, at at annual meeting of the Utiiti Valley Co-op. Dairy Co. yesterday. In moving the motion, Mr; Butt said there had been a good deal of controversy over the question of the Overrun obtained at the Uriiti and a neighbouring factory. It had been hinted that the dyer-run had been obtained in yarious ways that were not legitimate. Ho would, therefore, like to see the suppliers pass a vote of confidence in the manager so as to show that they were absolutely satisfied that the overrun was a genuine one and was not obtained by mfeans other tpan those that were legitimate and straightforward. The over-run secuj-ed at the Urqti factory under the control of Mr. W. Jones, as manager, has been 23.87 per cent in 1928, 24.33 per pent, in 1929, 24.52 per cent, ip 1930 and 24.12 per cent, in 1931. This high oyer-run,. together with that obtained by the manager of the North Taranaki Dairy Company t (Mr. Hrne), has’ been the subject of considerable controversy in dairying circles. At the annual meeting of th© Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Factory Managers’ Association last week there was considerable over the unusual over-ruii secured'at the two factories, and it, was resolved to procure the figures, and if they were fouud to be substantially higher than the average the annual meeting of manager? was to be recoin mended tn take the necessary steps to investigate. The matter was discussed . the animal meeting of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association at I’almerstou North on Tuesday, whep it was reported by & Taranaki delegate that the directors of the North Taranaki Company, which had an oyer-run of not Jess than 24j per cent., were so convinced that it could be done that they had. made an offer to place the factory at the disposal of the Dairy Division for a period of either 19 "days, bn? month, six month? or a year, with th? reservation that the company’s manager . should <)o tiie testing, either before or after: an officer of the Dairy Division, and that the manager should do the churning, any loss duping the operations of the Dairy Division to-be made good, Tjie managers presorit'at the meeting agreed that the matter should be cleared up one way or the other, and it was decided to request the Dairy Division to make a close investigation. into the over-rug of the North, Taranaki factory and accept the company’s offer for th* benefit of the industry.
