The retirement on superannuation of Mr. W. R. Davidson, assistant chief engineer of the railways, after 33'years service, is announced. Sir Thomas Wilford, the New Zealand High Commissioner, welcomed tlie New Zealand farmers’ party on its arrival in London. The death of Mrs. T. Milroy occurred at her Mt. Edeti residence yesterday. Mrs. Milroy whs the mother of Mrs. Cordon Fraser, ‘New Plymouth. A vote of sympathy with Mt. E. Maxwell in the death of his wife was carried by the NeW Plymouth Harbotir Board yesterday. Dr. D. Vaughan Thomas, Who will conduct examinations in the North Island for Trinity College of Music, London, arrived at Auckland by tho Niagara on Monday. Dr. C. 15. W. Behm, Australian official war historian, has been awarded the Chesney Medal by the Council of the Royal United Service Institution for his official history of the war, states a Sydney cable. A Wanganui telegram states that Mr. A. S. Campbell, who was recently appointed acting-traffic managei . a Wanganui, died suddenly in a private hospital yesterday. He was well-known in the service and was recently stationmaster at Auckland. A Wellington Press Association message announces the appointment of Capturn W. M. Bell, of Wellington as Resident Commissioner at Niue Island- He succeeds Captain A. A. Luckham, who has been transferred to tho island of Aitutaki. At the Urenui U.S.A, reunion last night a presentation was made former president of the branch, Mr. J. Rockett. The president, Mr. G. Loveridge, eulogised Mr.'-Rockett’s services to the association and to hny digger or anyone else who was down on his luck, and expressed regret at his departure from the district. Mr. W. W. Gabites, who has been for several years malinger at Hawera for the New Zealand Goan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., has received notice of his transfer to the Auckland office, where he will be assistant manager for the company. He expects to leave about the second week in July. Mr. E. J. Wiseman, director of the African Steam Transport Company, died after a long illness at hie residence in Johannesburg on April 2'J. He was born in the Fiji Islands, where his father was manager of a sugar estate. Hb wag educated in New Zealand; and matriculated at the Boys’ High School, Invercargill, where his father had taken up his residence.
A London message states that Sir Thomas and representatives of the Dominions’ Office, Government boards, the Royal Veterinary Society, Australia House, shipping and comniercc wore present at the interment of Mr. A. Crabb, secretary of the New Zealand High Commissioner's office, at West Norwood cemetery. The wreaths Included one from the New Zealand Gov eminent.
The death of Mr. Walter Haddrell at the age of 81 occurred at New Plymouth ori Wednesday flight. Mr. Haddrell wiis for a long time in charge of the Nevv Plymouth police office, where he earned the respect and esteem of everyone who came in contact with liiiri. He was a very efficient officer.. On retiring from the force sonic years ago he settled at Westown, where he lived a retired life. For some years he was afflicted with blindness, but he continue’, to take a keen interest in everything. He took an active part in raising funds for a church at Westown. —
