FARMERS’ COMPETITIONS

JUDGING IN PUKEARUHE DISTRICT GOOD QUALITY CARROT CRORE. Judging in the farmers’ competitions in the°Pukearuhe district was completed yesterday by Messrs. J. M. Smith and C. Haynes of the Fields’ Division of the Department of Agriculture. Some especially good crops of carrots were judged, some of which weighed well and scored high points for cultivation and quality. The swede crops were well orown, but in sonic cases there was Might evidence of rot. Unfavourable climatic conditions were said to be the cause of this defect and the same applied to the mangolds, which were not as \V6II •grown as usual. JUDGING AT KAIMATA. - ALL ENTRIES OF SWEDES. Judging of root crops in the Kriimata district took place on Wednesday. Messrs. Smith and Haynes were accompanied by Mr. J. Klenner, secretary of the Kaimata branch Jjf the Farmers' Union. : All the competitors entered swedes. The roots generally were of good quality, and considering the unfavourable season were fairly well grown.
