Furkert, accompanied by Mr. L. Mhy, district engineer, visited Clifford Bay, near Cape Campbell, where a marine’ survey is being carried out to determine the suitability of the locality for the main terminal of the South Island Main Trunk railway. Mr. Fiirkert returned to Wellington without making any comment. it is understood that the survey is still only half completed owing to bad weather’ being encountered and owing to the fact that the surveyors have at their disposal only a small rowing boat, but the work is to be pusheu oil with the utmost dispatch, presumably so that the data obtained may be used for the guidance of the,.railway board as a supplement to the special report on thb subject, which is known to be in existence.
