ROYALTY ON OPOSSUM SKINS
PAYMENTS TO DISTRICT SOCIETIES
The latent issue of the New Zealand Gazette announces an Order-in-Council concerning th? apportionment of moneys to acclimatisation societies for opossums taken. The total amount is £2877 13s 7d, being the net amount received in the various acclimatisation districts by way of fines and the proceed* of the sale of confiscated skins and articles, together with half the net revenue derived from fee., and royalty with respect to the taking of opossums, and it is t be paid to the acclimatisation societies of etich districts in the amounts indicated. Tho Taranaki Society receive* £5O 12* 9d. Stratford £lO 10s 4d, and Ilawera £44 8* sd. The districts and the amount* are: Auckland +TO4 13s lid, Buller £lO4 4* 9d, East Coast £T ■! Gs 3d, Grey district £133 15s 9d, Ilawera £4l 8s sd, Nelson £2OO 135 4d, North Canterbury £llO 18s Bd, Otago £309 14* Bd, Rotorua £l5l 12s fid, South Canterbury £57 0s lid. Southland £159 0* 7<l, Stratford £lO 10* 4d, Taranaki £5O 12* 9d, Waiapu £2O 4* 9d, Waimarino £5 8* (id, Waim. te £l7 8s Od. Wanganui £45 7s 7d, 1 '.-Uiiigtoii £9BO 5* 9d. Westland £192 13* 9d; total, £2877 13* 7d. Officers for stamping opossum skins and receiving royalty ~ who lia\e been appointed include Mr. H. Blackmore ('Taranaki district), Sergeant J. J. Power (Stratford), and Sergeant J. Henry (Ilawera).
