SCOTT’S RECORD FLIGHT
SMITH’S TIME EASILY BEATEN
FRU’fT AUSTRALIA TO ENGLAND.

A new record for the flight from Australia to England was established by Captain Scott, who arrived at Brindisi last night, and completed the final stage of his great journey .to-night. Scott, whose outward journey to Australia was accomplished m the record time of 9 days 3 hours 40 minutes, left Wyndham, Western Australia, on May 26, and reached England in under 11 days. The previous record for the homeward journey was held by Kingsford Smith, who did the flight in 12 days 211 hours. Captain Scott accomplished the whole flight in the face of very difficult conditions. He crossed tile Channel in a storm. He climbed down from the cockpit dazed, drawn and haggard and Suffering badly from cramp and deafness. His face was blistered by the heart of the engine. He admitted he \Vas glad it was all over.
“It is too far,” said the airman. He considered the homeward flight the better effort owing to the breaking of the monsoons. He beat Kingsford Smith’s record by 48 hours. /
