Messages from Santa Rosa De Capan, an important western Honduras mining, commercial and agricultural centre, report that the entire Federal garrison of 140 men, including their leader, Colonel Garcia, were killed when a much superior rebel force seized the town, following a fierce battle, and after the defenders had run out of ammunition.

Refugees from Santa Rosa stated that the major engagement in the present hostilities, which occurred last month, resulted in the death of over 200 soldiers on both sides, as well as many civil officials and civilians, whom the insurgents massacred. The city suffered much from looting.

The revolution appeared to be the most etnnprehetisive Which had broken out since 1924, an earlier message stated, and it was said to be gaining headway fast. Heavy fighting between revolutionaries and Government troops was reported* but broken communications prevented the receipt of details. , The insurgents were stated to have captured two north coast cities.
