The keen interest aroused by the basket ball club was evidenced by the enthusiasm displayed at their initial game on Thursday, when Bush played Beach. -Misses W. Haylock,• Moorby, Wooldridge, McCabe (2), Cole, Henderson, Wadsworth and Smith represented Bush, and the Beach team was Misses Brophy,- Goodin,. Bridgman, Paul, Larking, Street, Minchin, Sharp and Webb. Bush won by IS to 15.' r In appreciation of her past help and in anticipation of her further' kindness, a strong committee organised a social evening on Thursday to' raise funds for the purchase of first-aid equipment for Mrs. Beale. That local residents are appreciative of her help was shown by the splendid attendance, and the secretary,-. Mr. C. R. Wooldridge, ' and the committee were gratified at the results obtained. While’ a large number of dancers enjoyed themselves to the excellent music of the West Coast Dance Band, about a dozen tables were occupied by euchre players. After a play-off with Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Bridgman, Mrs. Matthews gained the ladies’ prize, while Mr. D. Houghton was the successful, mam.
Miss Julian, who has been teaching at the Okato school for some time, will leave-next month to be married. Dilling her stay here she has given invaluable help to the swimming club and swimmers generally.
