FIRE NEARLY CAUSES DEATH
SLEEPER HAD TAKEN DRAUGHT. POLICE UNABLE TO WAKE HIM. By Telegraph.—Press Association. / Wellington, Lant Night, When passing premises occupied by Mr. Harold Suckling at Lower Hptt about 2 o’clock this morning Constable Dwyer noticed a smell of burning and heard a crackling sound. He endeavoured without avail to arouse the cccu-p-nte. After calling the fire brigade he returned to the premises and awoke Suckling, who just managed to stagger out, being almost overcome by «moke. It appears that Suckling, who lives alone, puffers from mstlima and had taken a sleeping draught. He atated he left some embers in the grate when he retired.
