The police responsible for entering particulars of vagrants made an intensive hunt of the streets and the Embankment in driving rain. . More than a hundred wefh questioned in the crypt of St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields church, where a red lamp burns throughout the night to welcome the homeless. Four persons rescued from a blazing house at Brighton owe their lives to their neighbours’ staying up till midnight to complete census papers.
