AIR TRIP SIDELIGHTS
INCIDENT WITH PERSIA.
TROUBLE WITH CAMERAS.
Some humorous sidelights on an air trip from Australia in an attempt to reach England, and of the return journey from England,, back to Australia, were, supplied in a lecture' at Gisborne this week by Flying-Officer O. H. Owen. When they made a forced landing at Bandar Abbas ,on the Persian Gulf, he paid, trouble was experienced with officials, one of whom inspected the machine. They had with them a camera, and also a ‘’movie” camera. They were able to persuade the Persian official that the movie camera was a spare part for the engine, but the saine stoiy did not work in connection witlj the ordinary camera, which was confiscated. Mr. Owen said that after they had been Stranded at Athens, they found great difficulty in fnaklng the officials Understand their requirements until a young man was brought along. “Do you speak English,” tney asked him. “No,” replied the other, “but I can Sjieak American.” They got on quite well with that man.
