EARTHQUAKE RELIEF WORK
RED CROSS AND ST, JOHN’S.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
Earthquake relief work was discussed at a meeting of the New Plymouth Red Cross and St. John Relief Committee last night. There were present; Messrs. B. ilume (chairman), E- Swindells, A. B GiUoi, A. Patrick, Childerston, G. Cathey,' Wall, R.. C. McCleave (SRCrttarv) Mesdaines Newman, McHardy, Veale’ Javis, Patrick, Misses Penman, Mclvor, McHardy and Sister Corkill. The sum of £lOO was received by the committee for use amongst the New Plymouth refugees as a donation from the Urenui relief fund. A letter of thanks is to be forwarded to Mri'G. C. Kibby, who has repaired a number of shoes belonging to refugees free of charge. ~ Donations of vegetables and fruit were received from the Church of Engv land parishes of Waitara, Urenui, Motunui and Tikorangi. Mr. Grainger was added to the comRequests were received fr 0 1? several refugees for suitcases .to enable, them to pack their belongings for transit when they are. repatriated. Yesterday two families left for Napier and tomorrow others will be leaving. A statement of receipts and expenditure was presented. Donations up till yesterday amounted to £344 0s 7d. The expenditure was £39 3s sd, leaving a balance of £304 Us 2d. Accounts amounting to £65 Us 3d were passed for payment. These were for the followino* articles: Meat £3 13s 7d, foodwear °£s 5s sd, bread £2 Is *l, mens mercery 7s 6d, material for stock £7 13s 9d, <*roceries £3B 7s 6d, milk 1-& 6d, benzine £4 Is 4d, hardwear ss, medical supplies 12s 10d, office stationery £2 10s 6d.
