DAILY REGISTRATIONS KEEP UP.
One hundred and forty-eight men have been apportioned 445 days’ work for this week by the Hawera Unemployment Committee. The cost of this will be in the vicinity of £289 ss. There has been steady inquiry at the office of the committee for labour under Scheme No. 4a. This provides 15s a week for men to be employed and boarded by farmers. The secretary, Mr.. J. E. Campbell, said yesterday that 14 young single men and one married man had been placed with farmers in the district under this scheme.
There were, said Mr. Campbell, still a number of registrations every day, the men being for the most part farm labourers, who were beginning to lose their seasonal positions.
