MR. FORBES’ DETERMINATION.

A statement that he was not concerning himself with the political situatibn, •but was concentrating his energies on the steps he regarded as necessary for the welfare of the Dominion as a whole, was made by the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, at Christchurch on aSturday, when he deelined to be drawn into a discussion of the possibilities of the fusion of the United' and Reform Parties. When questioned on the subject this morning he replied: “The question of fusion has not arisen.” Further questions met with the reply that he had only one consideration at present, and that was how to assist the Dominion through the difficulties at present facing her. “I have a duty to perform, and I feel confident that thinking people will realise that drastic measures have to be -taken,” said Mr. Forbes. “It is absolutely'’necessary to help the primary producers through their troubles and to prevent this country from getting into a worse position.
