“BROOKLANDS” AND “JURANUL”
PERFECTION OF BEGONIA BLOOMS
The noted gardens of “Brooklands’ and “Maranui,” New Plymouth, are to bo open to tlie public to-morrow a .P er " nbon. The Taranaki Regimental Band is to give a recital at “Brooklands. A collection will be taken up in aid bf the earthquake relief fund. With its shaded sweep of lawns, bright beds of flowers and old trees, “Brooklands” is a perfect setting for a summer day. The white and pale blue oi agapanthas draw a line of colour along the drive, a rich, dark patch of petunias stands out in thb lawn, groups of tall lilium aiiratum bloom near the trees, and down below by the pool are dumps of hydrangeas in flower. At “Brooklands” the begonia house is just now very beautiful. There is the deep salnion-oraiige Lord Litihbdurne bloom, a perfect camellia form, the sharp orange John Mercier bloom with wavy petals, the sfUmbh-pink, frilled Lady Rhondda bloom arid soft blooms of pink and white to hard, Bright ?carlet. But the pride of “Brooklands” i? the Mrs. King bloom, raised on the property itself, a rose pink begonia with full, loose-lying petals. - There is a iiiitural charm in the beauty of the valley of “Maraiiul.” show their heads atiiong the trees, the punga ferns spread wide, sheltering fronds, and from the house side of the gully one glimpses ' Egmont.
