PATEA LINE SURVEY BEGUN.

SOUTH TARANAKI BOARD’S WORK.

An announcement that-survey work between the South Taranaki Power Board’s main sub-station at Ohangai Road and Patea had been commenced was made last night by the board’s engineer, Mr. T, R. Overton. Over three miles of the work had been completed. At the board’s power station 228,370 units had been generated during January and the maximum demand had been 7'20 k.w. In the same month last year 161.330 units had been generated and the maximum demand had been 657 k.w. The increases were 67,040 units and 63 k.w. Details of the connected load are, with the increases shown in parentheses;—Heating and. iron points 2704 and 1875.2 k.w. (33 and 19.8 k.w.); lighting, 1031.16 k.w. (2.48 k.w.); ranges, 56 and 293 k.w. (1 and 5 k.w.); water heaters, 113 and 75.95 k.w. (2 and 1.2 k.w.); industrial motors, 277 and 1057.8 k.w. (2 and 2.9 S k.w.); milking motors. 236 and 418.9,k.w. (1 an! 1,2 k.w.); field pumps, 80 and 23.75 k.w. (1 and .25 k.w.); drainage pumps, 5 and 32 h.p. The total increase in the connected load was 32.84. New consumers numbered 5, involving 62 hew lighting points, 33 new heating pointe, two new waterheaters, two new industrial motors and one new field pump. Sixteen lighting points, six heating points and a motor had been rewired. During the month 36 permits had been issued for four new installations, 24 addititons, seven rewiring, one for temporary work. In the Hawera Borough the 11,000 volt line from Princes Street sub-station via. Tawhiti Road to Grant Road and. 60 chains of new low tension had been finished. The Nolantown and Grant Road transformers had been erected. Earthguards and railway wires had. been attached to the 11,000 volt poles at. the Tawhiti railway crossing. An isolating switch had been installed at Egmont Street corner. The 200 k.v.a., transformer had been placed on the platform in Princes Street and the 50 k.v.a at Victoria Street. The high tension lines had been livened to these points. On South Road the 11,000 volt line had been completed from Ohawe Road to Simmons’ Lane, together with 70 chains of low tension. One isolating switch, one 15 k.v.a. transformer and> two poles had been erected, besides reconstruction of the old low tension lines. Wirihana Road had been poled and 50 chains of new high tension erected, also 37 chains of low tension changed over to new poles. One set of isolating links and a. k.v.a. transformer had been erected, and 16 poles erected, the' latter being recovered from other lines, The street lighting circuits of Nolantown, which were carried on at the same time as alterations to the reticulation, were finished. Nineteen hundred candle power bracket-type 'lamps had. been erected. Three-phase services had been constructed at Manawapou Road, Rowe Road and Wilson Street, and single phase in Morrissey Street, Okaiawa and Ohawe beach settlement (two). Interruptions in the service had occurred on February 10 and 15. The first, lasting twenty minutes, -was caused by the burning out of the main, switch controlling the Hawera feeder and the second, lasting over an hour, by thd removal of the switch and the reconnection of the circuit. In a great race with the field bunching early Anderson and Jobson took the lead on the last length and sprinted hard, Anderson touching 18 inches ahead of Jobson, with Dowdle a close third. Andersons limo was 65 l-ssec.
