LOSS THROUGH DEPRECIATION.

PATEA DISTRICT MEAT COMPANY.

Although no buying operations had been carried out, there had been a loss owing to depreciation in the value of consignments made in the previous year, stated the report submitted to the seventh annual meeting of the Patea District Meat Company, Ltd., a subsidiary to the company operating the Patea meat works, on Monday. The loss amounted to £453.

Mr. A. T. Christensen, chairman of directors, presided over a fair attendance of shareholders.

There was not much to say in reference to the company, said the chairman. It was recommended by the directors that certain adjustments of accounts be made with the parent, company and that a Iprry be sold. Owing to the very low price of stock it had been agreed to try to help the position iby buying some for freezing. The chairman added that the company had fulfilled its promise and intention to keep the works going and had benefited the district thereby. The main object was to carry on the industry, said Mr. C. Dickie. The loss all over the Dominion, he added, had been exceedingly heavy. Messrs. A. T. Christensen, B. C. Lysaght and E. F. Hemingway were reelected directors. Mr. S. R. Veitch was re-appointed auditor. PATEA PERSONALS. Mr. F. Rogers, Wellington, spent a short holiday at the Patea beach. Mr. C. O. Scott, Patea, has left for Wellington. Miss Jean McClay has left on transfer to Taihape. NORMANBY SHOW. CHILDREN’S PONY EVENTS. A special feature at the Normanby show on Wednesday next will be the school children’s pony events. These are all novelty items such as a potato race and an egg and spoon race, and no jumping or anything of a dangerous nature is being attempted. The society is fortunate in having the advice and assistance of Mr. E. R. Marshall, who has judged in many of the large agricultural shows in England such as Maddersfield, Evesham and the combined Worcester, Hereford and Leicester show, where in one class alone there were 105 entries of horses.
