The Alliance had pasted a resolution calling on workers to offer all the opposition possible to the reducing made throughout without consulting Parliament. or organised workers, and stating that a further reduction in wages would reduce the standard of living of many workers to a starvation level. PRIME MINISTER COMMENDED EXAMPLE TO AUSTRALIA. Rec. 7.5 p.m. London, Feb. 16. The Morning Post says Mr. G. W. Forbes has set an example of prudent and courageous finance, which ought not tb be lost on either Mr. Snowden or Mr. Scullin. New Zealand has suffered as much as any country under the maelstrom of world depression, yet whereas Australia is still shirking the issue, Mr. Rothes has wasted no time in bringing the situation under control before it ■became unmanageable. His programme embodies just those measures which Sir Otto Niemeyer recommended for Australia. “Improvident Governments like our own, who cut their coat without regard to their cloth,” says the Morning Post, “would be well advised to take a maf out of Mr. Forbes’ book.” STATEMENT BY MR. COATES. QUALIFIED SUPPORT GIVEN Auckland, Last Night. Referring to Mr. Forbes’ statement, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, said “insofar as Mr. Forbes follows our proposals, the Reform Party will support the Government in the measures which are considered to be of national interest.”
