HURRICANE AT RAROTONGA

BREADFRUIT TREES UPROOTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 16. The Secretary of the General Post Office advises that the following message was received to-day from the Superintendent of Rarotonga by radio:—

“9 a.m.—Aitutaki reports a hurricane passing to the east of the island; barometer 29.42; hundreds of breadfruit trees are down and nearly all the bananas destroyed ; it is expected that the orange crop will have suffered. At noon a east-north-east gale ip being experienced at Rarotonga; no damage is reported.”
