LOGKEG IN BLAZING MINE
JAPANESE REPORT DENIED 3000 CHINESE ALLEGED DEAD MANAGERS CLOSE SHAFT AMAZING DISCREPANCIES By Telegraph—Brees Assn. —Copyright Rec. 5.5 p.m. Peking, Feb. 14. Amazing discrepancies are shown in tlic Japanese and Chinese accounts of the Fusliun colliery explosion on December 11. The Japanese mine management claims there were no casualties and that the damage was negligible. Chinese reports from Mukden, however, declare that in order to localise the blaze the management closed the affected shaft, thereby trapping in a roaring furnace 3000 Chinese labourers and 30 or 40 Japanese foremen, all of whom perished in the Hames,
Correspondents describe how relatives of the entombed miners gathered at the pitljead tearfully imploring the management to open the burning shaft. The Nanking Government has instructed the provincial authorities to undertake an investigation and organise relief measures.
