PROMISING LEAGUE RIDERS. (By “Wheel.”) The New Plymouth League Cycle Club’s first series of evening road races concluded on Tuesday evening. Evening road races will be continued uptil the end of the track season as the h°y s have no track in New Plymouth this season. The scratch road ruces- proved very interesting and there were splendid finishes. Roy Sole proved the most consistent sprinter and won the points prizo narrowly from Aroa and. Lehrke. No outstanding sprinter was found among the competitors and. there uas not a great deal to choose between Sole, C. Lehrke, C. Aroa, R. Yardley and N. Bellringer. - . - Tommy Horner has proved . himßelt the best of'the second-class riders so far this season. He is growing more solid and finished strongly in his races. He should do well in the coming road season. •C. Tippins, winner of the mountain race in 1927, is training hard in an attempt to strike form again. When at his best Tippins is very hard to beat in any cycle events. ... TT Alec. Ellis is still riding well. He never rides a bad race and always seems to be fit. He scored a first and a second in the Club races at Waitara last week* Phil O’Shea, now 42 years of age, won a half mile New Zealand track championship in Christchurch last month. He won about £5O at the Christmas meetings, including a wheel race from scratch with a £2O cup attached to tl|e stake. . Sid. McCann\ injured his foot in a motor-cycle accident a few weeK? ago. Arthur.'Taunt, who at times has shown exceptional promise, is in _the New Blynymth’ Hospital with foot trouble. His win was overdue and meritOri Stan Rodgers showed much improvement throughout the. eerie? and was' unlucky to be beaten for the points prize in the last races. He is now far back” in. the handicaps but is sure to do well. H. Eva is another improving boy and shows exceptional promise. He gained an easy fastest time in the second-class road races last week and rode well at Waitara in the track races on Thursday .evening.
