With the money made available un- | der the No. 5 unemployment relief scheme the Stratford Borough Council will pay out £B4 in wages to relief workers this week. Forty-seven-men are being employed. . Next week there will be an increased number of men employed under the scheme as some had to complete their wait of 14 days before being entitled to work. There are also a number of men on the Stratford list who will be employed under the Stratford and Whangamomona County Council’s relief schemes. Registrations total 220 on the Stratford list, which includes all those men in the Stratford and Whangamomona Counties who are out of work. The cricket match which, was to have been held between Eltham and Inglewood on Thursday was postponed. That many farmers are unable this year t 6 meet the expense of sending their children to a secondary school is disclosed by the fact thht there were 14 less new pupils enrolled this year at the Stratford Technical High School than last year. As the enrolments from the tovvn are practically the same as last year, the deificit is due to fewer country pupils enrolling. Last year 120 new pupils were enrolled as compared with 106 this year. Of spfeial interest to anglers and sportsnreii is the lecture to' be given in Smith’s Rooms, Stratford, to-night by Professor Percival, of Canterbury College, chief officer of the Central Fish Research Committee.

Pupils at the Stratford. Technical High School will be taking various courses, the numbers in each class being:—First year science course, 33; first year general course, 28; first year commercial course, 16; first year trades course, 29; second year science course, 35; second year general course, 23; second and third year commercial course, 44; second and third year trades course, 19; and third and fourth year general course, 79.

“DAZZLING BEAUTY” AT ELTHAM. “GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY.” The “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” with an all-star : cast aided by a dazzling beauty chorus of 100, shows to-night at Eltham. The picture is a top-notch screen entertainment in the new style —talking and singing and dancing on the screen amid a riot of colours as gay find bright as the rainbow can display. And the colours are clearly denned —but with the softness of pastel. “Gold Diggers of Broadway’’ is first of all a good comedy. The entertainment de luxe sets a new goal for other pictures to aim at. The qast is one of the best and most famous seen in many a moon, really all-star as the producers claim. Nancy Welford and Conway Tearle have the leading roles while other principal parts are acted by such favourites of stage and screen as Ann Pennington, Broadway dancer, Winnie Lightner, the “Tomboy” of musical comedy, Lilyan Tashman, a blonde from the “Follies,” Albert Gran, Helene Foster, William Bakewell, Nick Lucas,, who Bipgs five of the nine songs, Les Moran, Neely Edwards, Julia- Swayne and Armand.'
