SPORT IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION ARRANGEMENT OF CONTESTS;The annual meeting of the North Taranaki Primary Schools’ Sports Association was held in New Plymouth, Mr, G. A. Lyall presiding. Present; Messrs. Middleweek, Train, E. Thomas, Bruce, ■\Vhiteside, Gorringe, Smith, Adlam, Gilbert, Brown, Leach, Simpson, Davey, Goldsbury and C. Drader Secretary). A vote of sympathy with Mr. W. H. Ineull was pasfitd. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. G. A. Lyall; vice-pr.esidents, the Rev. Father Minogue and Mr. 0Browning; secretary, Mr. J. G. C. Leach; executive, Messrs. Shimmin, Bruce, Gilbert, Simpson, Gorringe and Davey; auditor, My. E. J. Thomas. Mr. Bruce was appointed, delegate to the Swimming Association, and it was resolved to recommend to the association that Mr. Bruce be appointed educational officer. Mr. Gilbert was appointed delegate to the North Taranaki Cricket Association. , ‘ The association decided to hold the Walker Cup and MeHardie and Weston Shields competition, subject to the baths being available, on February 28, at 10.30 a.m., nominations to close on February 23. The following officers were appointed Handicappers; Messrs. Davy and Bruce; judges, Messrs. Shimmin, Evans and Brown; starter, Mr G. A, Lyall; check starter, Mr. R. Adlam; marksman, Mr. Bruce; rope stewards, Messrs. Gorringe and Middleweek; call steward, Mr. Train; door-keepers, Messrs. Thomas and Whiteside; recorder, Mr., Gilbert; standard steward,' Mr. Simpson; time-keepers, Messrs, McDonald and Dalgleish; costume stewards, Misses Harper and Henderson • protest com • mittec, the president, vice-president and secretary; judge of diving, Mr. J. Devine. . ■ , ■ The date of the schools’ swimming championship meeting was fixed fbr Saturday, Mareh 7, at 2 p.m., nominations to close with the secretary on March 4. A letter was received from the North Taranaki Cricket Association regarding school cricket. After lengthy discussion it was regolvpd, on the motion of Mr. Lyall, seconded by Mr. Browning, that the first round of the 1931 primary schools’ cricket competition should commence bn February 13, games to be played fortnightly and not later than the Friday of each week. The retiring secretary, Mr. Drader, was voted, an honorarium of two guineas an an expression of the association’s appreciation of his untiring labour and valuable sei-vices to the cause of sport generally in North Taranaki. The motion was carried with acclamation.
