EGG-LAYING COMPETITION

RETURNS FOR 44TH WEEK, The report of the Taranaki Egg-Lay-ing Competition Society for the 44th week gives the following returns;—? WHITE LEGHORNS.

FARMERS’ UNION ACTIVITIES. . SOUTH TARANAKI EXECUTIVE. The South Taranaki provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union met at Hawera yesterday. Present:—Messrs. E. J. Batts (chairman), A. L. Jennings, W. T. Seed, E. J. Booth, Mason, J. Cocker, 0. Robertson, ■W. E. Carter, J. A. Pettigrew, M. F. Voullaire, T. J. Allan,' N. F. Bell, H. Thrush and F. Young. . The- secretary ('Mr. E. K. Cameron) reported that , all details in connection with the recent rally had been finalised apd many letters of thanks had been despatched. The cost of the rally amounted to £312 14s 9d. It was mentioned that the Dannevirke rally, which was not as large as the Hawera one, had cost £9B. Inquiries had been received from Matamata and Palmerston North regarding suggestions and possible costs for rallies at those towns. A" special vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Cameron for the able and economical way he had conducted the rally. With reference to the obstruction at the corner of Ball Road and the Main 'South Road, the' Patea County Council advised ih^t' in the opinion of its engineer the removal of the would not improve matters much as the base Of the hedge was well above the road King Ltd. advised that Sutton and Sons had replaced the cup for the best half acre of mangolds in any South Taranaki fields competition, recently won outright by Mr. E. J. Betts. The conditions would be on the same lines as formerly. 'A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs. Sutton and Sons. The date of the' Farmers’ Union picnic was fixed for Sunday, February 15, at Opunake beach. PERSONAL ITEMS. Sympathy to the relatives of the late Mr. Thomas Geary was expressed at yesterday’s meeting of the South Taranaki provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union.
