MEETING OF TOWN BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Opunake Town Board, was held on Monday evening. Present were Messrs. A. J. Brennan (chairman), C. H. Smith, W.J. S. Dudley, D. Mourie, W. Gunson and S. Boyd. | The foreman reported ‘ that the tar sprayer had been returned to Wanganui. The clerk was instructed to ascertain tho cost of a sprayer. The foreman was instructed to supply an estimate on that part of Dommett Street from Napier Street to Lay-; ard Street. The clerk was instructed to write for particulars of cost of rubbish receptacles. The board intends to prevent hawkers from selling their wares in the township. Gates similar to those erected at the hospital will be erected at tho cemetery entrance. The caretaker reported that the domain had been freely used iby campers and the placet was left tidy. GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. Twenty-five Guides and four officers of the Opunake Girl Guides will leave Opunake for the rally at Wellington. Tho death of an old resident, Mr. Alexander McQuaig tok place at New Plymouth on Tuesday. He was a successful farmer on tho Kina Road. Mr. McQuaig leaves a wife, two sons and two daughters.
The wedding took place at the Catholic Church on Wednesday of Richard, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Fleming, Pungarehu, and Lillian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cochrane, Ngariki Road. The Rev. Father Kennedy was celebrant.
At tho midwifery and maternity nurses’ examinations held in December Nurse Collopy, of St. Helen’s hospital, Wanganui, passed with honours. Nurse Collopy is a sister of Mrs. A. Fevre, Opunake. The Diesel engine in the power-house commenced running on Wednesday. A number of local residents inspected it,
