NEW ZEALAND GOLF COUNCIL
NO AUTGSIN TOURNAMENT. The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Gold Council was held at Wellington on February 2 when there were present Sir Alexander' Roberts (chairman), and Messrs. W. E. A. Gill, A. D. S. Duncan, M. J. Crombie, Col. R. O. Chesney and G. O. Sutton (secretary). With regard to the establishment of a board of green-keeping research it yas reported that out of the communications sent to affiliated clubs only ten replies had yet been received, four being in favour of the project and six against Disappointment was expressed at this lack of interest in view of the keen interest was shown in the matter at the annual meeting. Matters in connection with the KirkWindeyer Cup contest were left over for discussion at the next meeting. A protest was received from the Golf Professionals’ Association with regard to the council’s decision that there will be no autumn tournament this year, but it was resolved, after consideration, to reply \that the decision cannot ba reconsidered and that owing to the altered conditions of the open championship this year all professionals will get an opportunity of playing in it and that there will also be good handicap events at the championship tournament. A letter was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Golf GreenKeepers’ Association which is now in the course of formation and it was resolved that the formation of such an association is very desirable and would be in the interests of clubs. Tho committee of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew’s wrote advising that the amateur golf championship of 1931 would be played on the Westward Ho course in the week beginning May 18 and that the open championship would be played on the olu course at Carnoustie in the week commencing June 1. The open championship of the United States Golf Association had been /fixed to take place on July 2, 3 and 4. The Lucifer Golfing Society,. London, wrote advising that its competition for
golfers from the overseas portion of the British Empire would take place at Walton Heath on July 7 and 8 and that all Competitors would be invited to a dinner as the guests of the society at the Savoy Hotel, London, on July 8,
