BAND CONTEST AT HAWERA PRELIMINARY' -ARRANGEMENTS, Preliminary arrangements for ; th? Taranaki brass and pipe bands contest at Hawera in March were made at-a general meeting-of the Hawera contest committee last night, Mr. E. Dixon-pre-sided. ' Bands are to assemble at. the Hawera post office early in the afternoon, 'and with the pipe bands-leading, will move' off at four-minute intervals for the show grounds.. At the conclusion of the contest the'massed bands will play a selection-under-the, baton of the -judge. Mr. R. Estall, Conductor of the. Woolston Band, and will be later joined by ‘the massed pipe bands. Ths piping judge will be Mr. A. S. Kirkland, New Plymouth. Prizes of- b'.j and £3 3s. will be awarded the first' and' second in both fha selection and the march for B and. C grade brass bands,, and first and second in the selection for pipe'bands. A shield for the band and medals for each bandsman will be given to the winners of the aggregate in the brass bands section, while similar presentations will be made to the pipe, band selection winners. ' The question of broadcasting'was-die-cussed* but no action was taken. ' • The South Taranaki Winter Show Company is to be asked for permission to use. its buildings should the day - be wet. Arrangements-are being made, -for a special excursion train from New Plymouth. . .■: ■
