The New . Zealand junior and intermediate swimming championships were commenced to-day in fine, dull weather. The meeting was successful from all aspects. In the second heat of’ the 100 wards junior girls R. Low (Canterbury) equalled the record (Imin. 16 2-asec.).
The championship results are:— 75 yards junior boys’ breaststroke. ■ W. Jarvis (Otago) 1, D. Thomas (Canterbury) 2, S. Jarvis (Otago) 3. The only starters. Won comfortably. Time, 66 l-ssec. 220 yards boys’ intermediate. —First heat: P. H. McGrath (Southland) 1, R. Geddes (Qtago), 2, G. Gleeson (Hawke’s Bay) 3. Also started: P. C. Eads (Manawatu), C. Bullivant (Wanganui), G. Low (Canterbury). Time, 2min. 45 4-ssee. Second heat: M. Redman (Hawkes Bay) 1, B- Gallate (Wellington) 2, V. Newall (Otago) 3. Won by three yards. Also started: J. McDonald (Canterbury), R. Frankham (Auckland), H Milsom (Ashburton). Time, 2min. 49sec. Final: McGrath 1, Redman 2, Gallate 3. A fine finish. Won by two feet. Time, 2min. 46 2-osec. 100 yards girls’ intermediate.—First heat: El L. Jones (Southland) 1. M. Reydon (Auckland) 2, J. Brewer (South Canterbury) 3. Also started: M. Price (Wellington). Won by four feet. Time, Imin. lOsec. Second heat: M. Mathieson (Otago) and S. Campbell (Canteibury) dead-heat 1, B. Harford (Manawatu) 3. The only starters. An excellent race. Time, Imin. Usee. Final: Campbell 1, Mathieson 2, Jones 3. The winner held a slight lead throughout. Time, 73 l-ssec. . ’' x 100 yards junior girls. —First hean i. Sporle : (Manawatu) 1, M. Pockaou (Otago) 2, C. Rix (Otago) 3. Aho started: N. Woodward (South Canterbury). Won by. eight yards. Time, Imfn. 16 4-ssec. Second x heat: R. Low (Canterbury) 1, W- Newall (Otago) 2, E. Rainey (Auckland) 3. The only 6 tartars. Won by six yards. Time, Imin. 16 2-ssec. Final: Spoyle I, Low 2, Rainey 3. Sporle took, a alight lead from Low ’ which she held throughout and in an exciting finish Sporle clipped a second off the record of Imin. 15 2-5 220 yards junior boys. —First heat: N. Crump (Auckland) 1, W. Jarvis (Otago) 2, E. Guildford (South Canterbury) 3. Also started: D. S. Thomas (Canterbury). Won by a yard. Time, 2min. 52 3-ssec. Second heat:- C. Cliff (Can-te.-bury) 1, K. A. Welsh (Wanganui) 2, S. Jarvis (Otago) 3. The only starters. Won by ten yards. Time, 3min. 12 l-ssec. tfinal: Crump I, W. Jarvis 2, Cliff 3. A great finish. Won by a foot. Time, 2min. 56sec. 100 yards intermediate boys’ breaststroke. —First heat: C. Elliot (Otago) 1, J. McDonald (Canterbury) 2, E. Friberg (South Canterbury) 3. The only starters. Won comfortably. Time, Imin. 32 4-ssec. Second heat: R. Geddes (Otago) 1, H. Tremewan (Wellington) o S Childs (Ashburton) 3. The only starter*. Won by three yards. Time, Imin. 33 2-osec. Final: Geddes 1, Ttlmewan 2, Elliot 3. Geddes held the lead throughout and won by five yarda. Time, imin. 23 2-sscc.
