SUSTENANCE ADVOCATED
NAPIER COMMITTEE’S VIEWS.
By Telegraph!—Press Association.
Napier, Last Night. The Napier Unemployment Committee to-night carried the following . resolution: “That in view of the rapid increase of unemployed men despite all organised efforts to place them at work, it is clear employment has not and cannot be found for the majority of them. This committee therefore strongly urges upon the Unemployment Board and the Prime Minister in particular the pressing need for the payment of sustenance allowances to relieve distress of unemployed and'those dependent upon them for bread.
“While this committee is desirous that work if possible should be provided for those who are unwillingly idle, it insists that failing immediate and' fairly continuous work at a wage sufficient to meet the ordinary needs of men, women and children the Government. is under legal and moral obligation to sustain those who have complied with the provisions of the Unemployment Act, and who are now suffering privation.”
