The vessel carries cargo from New Plymouth. FAST CARGO VESSELS. Following a discussion on the fastest Cargo vessels a correspondent in an exchange writes that he believes there are many cargo vessels of the Clan Line and the Blue Funnel Line that could show their wake to any 18-knotter and believes that the cargo ship Aeneas, loaded, from Australia to the Continent, via the Cape, eight or nine years ago, made a passage that averaged somewhere about 21 knots. Incidentally a tale told to mariners is that the shortest time taken by any vessel between Australia and the United Kingdom was by the erstwhile Commonwealth Government steamer Fordsdalo (or the eFrndale), via Suez. The Ferndale was in New Zealand waters and at New Plymouth on July 3 and again on November 10, 1930. Some Of the British Government oilers, purely cargo vessels, at present laid up in United Kingdom ports, could show their rudders to the new Japanese vessels without any forcing, and whilst giving all credit to the Japanese for their enter-prise,-it should be stated that the dolphins can still get moreTrolicsome fun by chasing “The Red Duster.” SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
