16,607 MEN NOW REGISTERED. By Teletfraph.—Preap Association. \ , Wellington, Last Night. A.,--new record for unemployment registrations was created for the week ended on January 26. The total number of men out of work in New Zealand rose to 16,607, an increase of 1732 over the previous seven days. This represents an increase of 12,523 over the week ended on May 26, 1930, when the Minister of Labour, the Hon. S. G. Smith, decided to make the returns available. Following are the returns of the unemployed in the main centres for the week ended January 26, with dependand without dependants:—

The totals, with those for the previous week in parentheses are: Auckland 3900 (3495), Wellington 2253 (2233), Christchurch 2106 ( 2056), Dunedin 994 (828), Invercargill 281 (365).
