YOUNG MARRIED MAN MISSED
DROWNING TRAGEDY SUSPECTED. ABANDONED boat recovered. By Telegraph.—Prepji Association. Rotorua, Last Night. About. 8 p.m. yesterday, two young meh. bathing off Sulphur Point saw a man dive from a_ boat into the lake about three-quarters of a mile from the shore, they thought no more of it until this morning, when, it was found that Walter Easlea Graeff was missing. The matter was reported to the police. As no information concerning Graeff’s movements could be obtained, Sergeant J. J. Hogan despatched Constable Brown in a launch to search. Later the police learned that a boat had been picked up by two Maoris living on Mokpia Ig- ' land. It was drifting about two miles from the shore in the direction of Hinetnoa Point. The oars were•stowed in the bottom of the boat and. the rowlocks were in place and there was. a hat under the front seat. It is feared that a tragedy has .occurred. Constable Brown is continuing the search. Graeff, a baker about 30 years of age, is 'married and has been resident in Rotorua for about ten years.
