ALDINGTON stock market STORE LAMBS AND FAT SHEEP UP. ' FAT CATTLE AND LAMBS DOWN. c' . - / By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Easings in the values of fat cattle and fat lambs and advances in those for store lambs and fat sheep were the principal features of the weekly metropolitan market at Addington to-day. The entry of store lambs was_ a large one, and included lines from Kaikoura and Blenheim. The sale was a freer one, and prices firmed by about Is. a head. The adult entry was comprised of five pens, of which one .was passed. Best rape lambs ’ made Bs. 3d. to 9s. 2d., medium rape lambs 7s. 3d. to Bs., ordinary rape lambs ss. 6d. to 75., small and backward 2s. sd. to 55., ewe lambs 4s. to 65., sound-mouthed halfbred ewes to 75., aged ewes to 2s. The entry of fat lambs was 4600 head, and included lines from the West Coast. The ’demand, was good, but values were easier by about 6d. a head. Export buyers operated at from 4d. to 4fd. prlb. Extra prime lambs made to. 17s. 4d., prime lambs-14s. 9d. to 16s. 6d., medium lambs 12s. 6d. to 14s. 6d„ light lambs 10s. to 125., store lambs. 7s. to 9s. The entry of fat sheep was 3700 head. The quality was a little above that seen at recent markets. The sale of ewes was conducted on a little better basis of values than those ruling at the last market. They advanced by Is. to Is. 6d. a head. Wethers recorded no change in value and eased at the end of the sale, when there was an over supply. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 19s. 10d., prime heavy wethers 16s. to 17s. 6d., medium wethers 13s. to 15s. 6d., second quality wethers 9s. to 12s. 6d., light wethers 7s. to 95., extra prime ewes to 14s. 7d., prime ewes 10s. 6d. to 135., medium ewes Bs. to 10s., light ewes ss. 6d. to 7s. 6d., aged ewes 3s. 6d. to ss. The fat cattle entry was 350 head, the smallest for many markets. The sale was very dull, and. for prime beef there was san easing of up to £1 a head. The North Island contributed. 52 head, from ths Gisborne district. Passings were frequent. The best medium weight prime beef made from 28s. to 30s. per 1001 b., and. in. a few odd cases slightly above that figure. Heavy beef made from 235. to 265., cow beef from 20s. to 235., secondary beef from 17s. 6d. to 205., and rough 'down to 15s. Extra prime heavy steers to £l4 12s. 6d., prime heavy steers £lO to £l3, prime medium weight steers £7 to £9 10s., medium quality steers ]£s to £7, light steers to £4 10s., extra prime heifers to £9 7s. 6d., prime heifers £6 10s. to £8 10s., medium heifers £3 15s. to £6, light heifers ,£2 10s. to £3 10s,, extra prime cows to £8 175., prime cows £6 to £B, medium cows £3 10s. to £3 155., light and aged cows £3 to £3 ss. 1 - There was only a fair entry of vealers, qnd the greater portion of it was made, up of sorts which would have been better placed in the store pens, being unfitted for butchers’ purposes. The remainder of the entry sold at rates on a par with those ruling last week. The top price was £5 2s. 6d. Runners made ,£3 10s. to £5 2s. 6d., best calves 10s. to 305., medium calves 255. to 355., small and inferior calves 7s. to 20s.

The entry of store cattle was a poor one, there being very few straight lines. The sale was a lifeless one, but prices were much the same. Yearling. steers made up to 555., yearling heifers to 605., fresh cows to £3 10s., good coloured calves to 175., others to 7s. 6d., potting bulls to £5. There was an entry of 74 head in the dairy cattle section. The was mixed, and there was little competition, except for good, cows close to calving or just calved. These held late rates. Good second, and third-calvdrs made £B, aged and inferior £2 15s. to £5, backward sorts £3 to £4 155., good heifers £9 ss. to £lO 155., medium t £7 to L £B, others £5 ss. to £6 15s. There was a smaller entry of fat pigs. The demand throughout was much the same as it was last week, though prices were a shade firmer. Choppers made £2 to £5 18s. 6d., and baconers 475. 6d.. The store pig entry consisted chiefly of slips and small weaners. Prices showed little change. Large stores made to 335., small and medium 18s. to 285., weavers to 16s. 6d., slips 13s. to 16s« / 1 • \ WESTFIELD RATES UNCHANGED. NO IMPROVEMENT IN DEMAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Beef offered in usual numbers at Westfield, sale to-day. The demand was not improved, and values remained the same as last week. Cow and heifer beef came forward in average numbers, and here again no alteration in values was recorded. Extra choice ox sold to 275. per lOOlb., choice and prime ox 245. to 265., just killable 21s. to 235., prime young cow and heifer beef, 235. to 265., just killable 15s. to 225. Heavy prime steers made £9 to £lO ss. 6d., lighter prime steers £7 17s. 6d. to £8 hs. G-> light prime steers £6 17 s. 6d. to £7_los. 7d. small and unfinished steers £5 2s. 6d.’to £5 155., extra heavy prime young bows and heifers £8 to £8 10s., heavy prime cows and heifers £7 to las, lighter prime cows and heifers £o las. to £6 other killable cows £3 to £5 ss. Sheep were yarded in larger numbers than usual, and the demand was weak. Values were unchanged. Heavy prime wethers made 13s. medium 12s. to 12s. 9d., light and unfinished 10s. 6d. to "11s. 9d., heavy prime ewes 7s. to 9s. 9d., lighter 6s. to 6s. 6d., other ewes 3s. 6d. to as.

Lambs were yarded in average numbers. The demand was unchanged, and values were on a par with last week’s quotations. Heavy prime lambs made las., medium 12s. 9d. to 13s. 6d., light 10s. to 12s. Of calves there was an. average yarding, the greater part being bucket-fed animals of good quality which met with a ready sale at slightly improved values. Runners made £3 2s. 6d. to £3 125., heavy vealers £2 Bs. to £2 195., medium £1 16s. to £2 45., light 16s. to £1 145., rough 7s. to 125.. small 3s. to Us. Pigs were yarded in average numbers, but competition was dull and values eased on last week’s rates. Baconers made to 525., porkers to 335.. stores 16s. to 205., slips 10s. to 165., weaners 10s. to 165., small weaners 7s. to 10s. WAIKATO LIVE STOCK VALUES FAT SHEEP WORTH MORE MONEY. Hamilton, Jan. 27. There was a elight increase in the prices for fat sheep at the Frankton stock sale to-day, and good competition was experienced. Fat lambs sold well. Prices for fat cattle were somewhat lower than recent rates, and cow beef also met with a poor demand. A large number of pigs were yarded, and a. further drop in prices was noted. The auctioneers quote: — Prime, well-finished wethers, to 13s; light prime, 12s 3d; unfinished, 9s 7d to

10s 7<l; prime fat ewes, 5s Id to 6s 6d; unfinished ewes, 3s 8d to 4s 6d; prime heavy woolly lambs, to 18s 9d; medium to light lain be, Ils 6d to 13s 3d; small, 8s 9d. SYDNEY AND NEW ZEALAND. ■With the current money exchange rates there are few transactions in shares between the New Zealand and Australian Stock Exchanges. The result is that there is a wide disparity in market values in many instances. For instance, says the New Zealand Herald, Australian Glass shares, which have sold on the Auckland markets at &4s 6d during the past few days, changed hands on the Sydney Stock Exchange on Thursday last at up to 29s 3d; British Tobaccos, which were selling in New Zealand around 28s, sold in Sydney last week at around 335. and Goldsbrough Morts sold around 20s, compared with 16s lOd in New Zealand.New Zealand Insurance shares, which have been selling at from 41s to 41s 9d in New Zealand, show a big margin in Sydney, changing hands there on Thursday at 525. Bank of New South Wales shares provide one of the few. exceptions, selling around £26 10s in Sydney, compared with £27 10s in New Zealand. Australian short-dated Commonwealth bonds are at a big discount at the moment. Five and a half per cent, bonds due this year sold on Thursday at down to £95 12s 6d; 6 per cent, bonds, due 1938, sold at down to £93 Is 3d. New Zealand. Government, 5j per cent, bonds (the issue which is sellinf over the counter in the Dominion at°the present time at par), due 1937, sold the same day at £llB. New Plymouth Oil Wells, Ltd., reports that its well has been bored to a depth of 1002 feet in arenaceous mudstone. The company has commenced running the case. The casing will be run to the bottom and thence carried with the tools. Gas is showing as strongly as ever.
